How To Deal With Bad Cat Behavior?

by Tiffany Schneider

While cats can be sweet, loving and adorable pets that we love dearly, they can also cause havoc in your home. Claw marks in furniture, Christmas tree ornaments batted from trees and broken, and snagged clothing are just a few examples of the damage that cats can cause.

There is an explanation for cats being naughty. And if they are aware of why cats do this, people who have cats will be able to manage their pets' behavior. Here are some issues about cats that make them misbehave combined with suggestions for making them act better.

Cats who suffer from boredom tend to be ill mannered. Since they do not have anything to do on a daily basis, they have no other means to resort to. When cats act in this behavior ,they are usually seeking attention. Other times, they may just be trying to find a way to exhaust their energy.

Whatever the case may be, these can be solved by allotting time for your cat to play with you. However, do not do this immediately after your cat misbehaved. Your cat will associate its misbehavior with you giving it more attention.

Being nocturnal creatures, cats are normally active at night and this may be a time when they get into mischief. One solution to this problem is to keep your cat occupied during the day so that he/she will be tired at night and sleep, rather than keeping you up.

Cats misbehave when they are sexually-driven. Expect misbehavior when cats feel that it is time to mate. Expect a lot of misbehavior for cats who are confined inside their homes when it happens! Surgical procedures can be done to prevent misbehaviors caused by sexual urges. Female cats can undergo spaying; male cats can undergo neutering.

While owners often get angry when their cats misbehave, their pets may not understand their owners' reactions. This is a result of pet owners' failure to get their point across to their pets. Cats may misinterpret a reprimand as an offer to play.

When disciplining your pet, you must make it clear that this is a punishment and not a reward. Cats enjoy rewards, but hate punishment. If your cat misbehaves, do not give it a lot of attention. Withholding of attention can be used as a punishment so that the cat realizes that certain behaviors make you unhappy.

Cats enjoy playing with certain things in the house. There are things that cats love. It may be a curtain, or a pillow. The good thing is they hate certain smells too. Spray unpleasant smells on those things to keep cats away. By knowing why pets misbehave owners have more chances to correct these bad habits!
