Chick House and its Dimensions

by Paul J. Easton

When you are designing your chick coop, there are numerous considerations and the chick coop dimensions is one of the most important you must hold in mind. You should project how many chicks you are planning to produce in the future. This is important in chick coop dimensions as you do not want your chicks to be over crowded in one space. Jammed together in too tight of an area, the chicks can spread diseases quickly. Moreover, it is not sanitary. By granting them enough of space, you will certainly have better success of producing healthy chicks and chickens.

You will require adding in your chick coop dimensions a space for incubation. This is particularly true if you plan on increasing your chicks from eggs. This incubation space should be separate from the area where the baby and older chicks are kept. You also want to have a separate door for the incubator space. This will prevent the interruption of the other chicks if you are in the hatching stage. The space must be large enough to handle the equipment too.

You will likewise need to take into account a run for the older chicks with the planning of your chick coop dimensions. When the chicks are still very young, they will have down feathers. When the chicks reach the age of six to eight weeks old, it will give way to full feathers. When this occurs, you can permit the older chicks stray outdoors. You need to have a run that will be wide enough for the number of chicks to be accommodated. Ensure you keep the chicks protected when outside in the run by burying your run's chicken wires deep into the ground.

Once you have finalized the correct chick coop dimensions for your project, you can commence building the chick coop. With all these considerations for the dimensions of your chick coop, you can expect to have more success with your chickens.
