Baby showers are such an exciting event on the pregnancy calendar and of course one of the most important parts of the day is opening the presents. You hear all the Oohs and Aaahs when the expectant mum unwraps all the gorgeous little gifts.
Now when it comes to baby presents, as a "Mum To Be" you appreciate all your gorgeous gifts, but you especially love the hand made gifts because you realise the effort and thought that has gone into making your special little miracle a unique baby present ... And that's so special!
Plus you get the credit for a handmade present for years to come. I have personally made blankies for a few baby showers and a long time later I still get praise for my craftiness. Youre Aunty Tracey made that for you.
But seriously don't get too freaked out, thinking "I can't knit like Grandma" or I'm not crafty like Aunty Sue", because I have the EASIEST baby gift you can make, but the best thing is it looks gorgeous too!
UNIQUE BLANKIES!
STEP 1: Go to a fabric shop and find the flannelette material.
STEP 2: Choose 2 fabrics one for either side. They dont have to match " experiment! Maybe do one side patterned and the other plain or one side blue pattern and the other side pink pattern if you dont know the sex of the baby.
STEP 3: Buy fabric 1.2 metres in length
STEP 4: Go home and get set up at a flat table. Pin the fabric together on all sides with the patterns facing each other.
STEP 5: Sew straight lines around all the edges leaving a 10cm hole on one side.
STEP 6: Reach your hand into the hole and turn the fabric inside out.
STEP 7: Go to the hole and tuck the edges in so it looks neat and tidy like the rest of the blanket. You may want to iron it down so it stays flat.
STEP 8: Sew 2 straight lines around the edge of the whole blankie. This is done for 2 reasons. A) To sew up the whole left when you turned the fabric inside out. B) It makes a nice border.
If youre a bit more experienced or brave then experiment with different border stitching.
STEP 9: Fold nicely and add ribbon and a little note saying Handmade with Love
STEP 10: Hand over the present and be proud of your gorgeous hand made gift I know your "Mum To Be" will absolutely love.
