Do you have any idea how common keyword research is? There is not one minute, one hour or one day that passes that a writer has not typed in a specific keyword into one of the many online search engines to get some sort of idea about the subject they will write their next article about. Is it a good idea to do a bit of keyword research whenever you are going to write an article about a subject that is unknown by you or one that you know very little about? The answer to this is yes and no. Keyword research can be very helpful, especially when you do not have a clue about the subject you are writing about.
However, there are times that doing keyword research can actually slow you down while you are working. It can also get you in hot water if you plagiarize or copy someone else's work without their permission. Today plagiarism is rampant and many clients insist on getting complete original content.
It may appear to be a very good idea to do a bit of keyword research before beginning the actual writing of a new article. However, you have to be extremely careful that you do not use any more than three particular words together from the original text you have found while researching. There are programs out there to catch this, such as Copyscape. When they are found, the program will highlight that particular phrase as being suspect. This simply means that you will have extra work to do by having to revise the part of your article so that it is no longer the same as the original phrase. Doing so can cause you to lose a client and give you a bad name, thereby influencing whether or not you even find other clients to work for if you let it happen to very often.
What about those times when you are not planning to write an article for someone else to read when doing keyword research because you want to learn how to do it and see what you can find while you research keywords or keyword phrases? Well then, you can search for anything you like when you are not planning on using any of the information that your find in searches in an article or paper.
When you research for you own pleasure or for learning information and you have plans of using it for anyone else to read, such as the general public then you can search for anything you wish. Does this mean that you cannot copy any information from any online web page for your own information and print out the entire page? The answer is no. You can do so for your own reading pleasure.
