A Look at Raising Bees for Honey

by Calvin Wapasa

In order to raise bees for honey, there's one thing you surely should have. If you lack this single item, then you cannot get started at all. So what's this important thing you need? The answer is simple. You must have bees. So how do you get these bees? Well these bees can be found from these common places.

Swarm - Try capturing a swarm that exists and relocate this swarm to your hive. Swarms are formed by new bees by moving from a previous bee colony. This happens by a bee leaving its nest to form a new nest. Swarms are found mostly in trees. It is a big risk capturing these swarms, but if you are able to get them then you are ready to begin.

Purchase a colony - You can buy a colony of bees with a queen bee and worker bees inside. This option may be a bit more expensive since you are buying a colony that is already flourishing.

Move an existing colony - One other option is moving one colony to your hive. As a new beekeeper this can be dangerous but is ok for experienced beekeepers.

Purchase packaged bees and a queen - The last option is the most recommended option especially for those starting out. This is done by purchasing some bees and a queen bee in order to begin the beekeeping process.
