Prevent Snoring By Losing Weight

Do you snore? Do you keep your spouse up half the night with your snoring? Or if you sleep alone, do you suffer from uncomfortable sleep and headaches when you wake up the next day? Maybe you feel like getting sleep didn't replenish your energy level at all?

Snoring is something that affects you, not just in your sleep, but also long after you've woken up. Many factors cause snoring, from the way you sleep, what you eat, and if you smoke. One significant factor is your weight. How does being overweight cause snoring? As you gain weight, more fatty deposits develop in your body; your neck is not safe from these fatty deposits. When more fat piles around your neck, this causes your throat's passageways to narrow, and if you're overweight or obese, lying on your back as you sleep causes the fat to squash up and create obstruction in your throat, making it extremely difficult for air you breathe in and out to pass through your throat and vibrating powerfully against your throat muscles. Fat build-up around your stomach also takes place when you gain weight, and this in turn causes it to compress against your lungs, severely reducing your lungs' volume or capacity.

As you can see, losing weight can help prevent snoring, if only for the fact that it makes it easier for you breathe. Make sure that you're consuming healthful foods rich in vitamins and other important nutrients such as protein, and cut back on greasy, sugary meals. At the same time, you should make an effort to reduce your intake of dairy foods. Dairy foods have properties that cause the mucus to build up in your throat. Don't forget to get sufficient exercise as well. You'll find that you may have difficulty at first, but over time, you will get used to it and find exercising easier to do. This is all part of your efforts to prevent snoring.

In time, you may find that you are snoring less and less. Losing weight is a good goal, not just to improve your health and overall well-being, but also to prevent snoring for good.
