Pricing Methods For Laser Hair Removal

by Robert Mary

The demand for laser hair removal has sky rocketed thanks to improved results and reliability as an effect of advancement in laser technology. One of the first things people ask about is the costs involved in such a treatment. The short answer: it depends. The long answer, well, this is the long answer. As with most cosmetic procedures, pricing is done on a case by case basis depending on a number of factors.

There are three factors that influence the hair removal cost by laser treatment. First, it depends on what area of the body the hair will be removed from. Facial hair removal is very different from hair removal of the backside because of the difference in the skin. The second influence is the number of repeat sessions required. Obviously, the performing doctor will charge more if more work is involved across multiple sessions. The third influence in cost is the doctor and how much the doctor charges for his or her work. When consulting with a doctor about the procedure, it's a good idea to ask how they charge and get an approximation of the total costs if you do decide to follow through with the procedure.

Different clinics will use a variety of pricing methods to come up with the final bill, be sure to make yourself aware of what method is used. Some places charge by the minute and your bill depends on the amount of time is involved. Other places will charge a flat fee for each session for each area of the body. This means any individual wanting work done in the same area should be priced equally. Still, some places will charge per pulse. There are a variety of other methods but these three are the most common.

Most clinics that charge based on time usually bill in increments of fifteen minutes. There are a few factors that influence the amount of time required. It will take more time if the area being treated has more hair, thicker hair, or a combination of the two. Usually it is the size of the area that determines the amount of hair, but this doesn't have to be the case. The other two depends on the clinic and how they work. Some machines will be able to laser more hair at a faster rate so less time is required to treat the area. It also depends on the operator of the machine and how fast he or she can get the work done. All these things will determine the final bill if the clinic charges based on time.

In the flat fee pricing method, the price is determined by the area that is to be treated. Every patient who is to have hair removed from the same area will be billed the same amount regardless of the amount of hair to be removed. It is usually determined for that particular session or series of sessions, whatever is typical for that area and how the area is treated.

The fee per pulse method is another form of laser hair removal pricing. A pulse is everytime the laser is fired, and pulses ordinarily last less than one second. Each pulse penetrates about a hundred hair follicles, so the more hair to be removed, the more pulses will be required.

Among clinics that practice this pricing method, it is almost a given that there will be a minimum number of pulses required to begin. After the minimum number of pulses are paid for and used up, they will charge a decent amount per additional pulse. Typically, the price per pulse beyond the minimum is around one dollar. It tends to become cost effective for repeat sessions because as the hair grows back thinner after multiple treatments, it takes fewer pulses to treat the area.

Regardless of the pricing methods, the individual and the area to be treated is really what determine whether to cost will be higher or lower. The amount of hair in that particular area, the thickness of the hair, and the number of treatments required to complete the job is what really determines the costs of laser hair removal.
