Christians and Drinking

Getting Drunk is Sin, but How About a Little Social Drinking on Holidays?I did it for years. My mom, my aunts and my cousins would meet over the house of a cousin and his wife at Christmas. There would be a prayer. And then everyone would line up to eat in the massive line, which would include my mom's scrumptious dinner rolls. Indeed one major thing we
all will miss about Mom. She sure could get down and boogie on those rolls. There is no way to describe them. You just had to be there to eat them. While everyone was enjoying the sweet potatoes, the chicken and the turkey, soon the champagne and wine bottles would be passed around. I would say, "Just a little bit of that champagne, please." I would relish it. The tangy taste of champagne--enjoyed just this one time of year--was really stimulating to my taste buds. I would have one, maybe two glasses at the most. Then it would be over, until Thanksgiving or Christmas would come around again. I showed that liquor had no control over me, I had control over it. I had been saved for many years--since 1985, to be exact. And for years I prayed earnestly, every day, for my family members, that God would begin to do a work. I did not want to see one family member go to Hell, especially my mom and dad. Both are long gone now, so whatever choices they made, they made. So I was willing to do whatever it took to make it easier for God to do what He clearly wanted to do in their lives. For in His Word, He says that He is not "willing for anyone to perish, but that all would come to repentance" ( 2 Pet 3: 9). But in order for Him to do His work, He had to have some cooperation from me. I would have to live the life of a saved man in front of Him, for I realised that I needed to live in such a way as not to become a stumblingblock to the very people I was trying to reach. As Paul points out in Romans 14: 13 : "I am persuaded that nothing is unclean in and of itself, but it is unclean to anyone who thinks it is unclean. If your brother or sister is injured by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love." We are to walk in love towards one another. And the facts are that there is at least one alcoholic in my family, and at least another one who's at least borderline.Christians and DrinkingOriginally from: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1940262/christians_and_drinking.html
