How to Make Your Home Safe

Dangers in the home are everywhere. Some are easy to see while others may be hidden. In order to keep one's family and guests safe, a homeowner should inspect their home in five main dangers zones. The first item that should be inspected is the outlets. First, all grounded outlets should be tested. An inexpensive tester can be purchased to complete this task. If the tester has a negative response, seek the help of a contractor to ground the outlets. If the outlets are not grounded,
it could cause shock even possibly death. Also if the outlets are not grounded properly, it could cause damage to appliances and may even void warranties. In the bathroom and any outlets near water should be GFCI electrical outlets. These outlets protect those in your home from electrical shock. These outlets also protects against a circuit breaker shorting out. Now, everyone knows stairs can be dangerous, but not many people take the time to really make sure that the little things get repaired. Of course, toys on the stairs are dangerous, but what about baskets. Many people like to decorate their homes with baskets and other items. They often times leave these on the stairs. However, when guests are visiting they may forget that they are there or not even see them and trip. Also, stairs should be inspected for loose carpet or broken steps. The railing should be stable and secure. This not only includes indoor stairs, but also steps outside the home.Obviously, the kitchen is a major danger zone. The stove should be free of any items not used for cooking. Items should not be stored in the oven. Improper use could cause a fire. Of course, a fire extinguisher should be within reach. Everyone in the home should know where it is and how to use it. There should be an extinguisher not only in the kitchen, but on every level in the house. Household cleaners and chemicals should be stored out of reach of children and animals. All appliances should be plugged into the correct outlets and be in good working order. How to Make Your Home Safe
