Knock Out Roses for Your Landscape

There are now four different Knock Out Roses in my landscape. The first variety of this rose form was a beautiful red that seemed to love hot, dry, rainy or cool weather. Rosa 'Radrazz' Knock Out was planted at my mailbox and seems happy
to be there to greet the mailman. She has not overtaken the spot and remains unfazed by disease or insects. This rose has a slightly spicy scent.Radrazz red was so lovely I began to search for other colors and found the pink Knock Out Rosa 'Radcon'. This rose is a lovely a baby pink shade and has held up just as well as her older sister Radrazz. At the same time I purchased Radcon pink I picked up the Blushing Knock Out Rose 'Rosa Radyod'. The blooms of Radyod are pink when they begin to bloom and then fade to a very pale pink shade. The last Knock Out rose I purchased was the Sunny Knock Out Rosa 'Radsunny' which is a beautiful sunny yellow with such a wonderful scent. As I was looking over the Knock Out roses the scent is what drew me to this yellow plant. I have since learned this is the first truly fragrant Knock Out rose although the scent comes from the little supporting stem of the leaf blade or petiole not the flower. A search on the Internet led me to a white form of the Knock Out which has been named White Out 'Radwhite' rose. This rose is purported to have a slightly citrus fragrance. So I will be watching for this variety to hit my garden centers. All these roses have been developed by breeder William Radler in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He has given all rose lovers a chance to enjoy roses that don't need daily care. The Knock Out and now the White Out are extremely disease and insect resistant. I look forward to more of his fabulous roses in the years to come.In the past I have had hybrid teas and floribundas but finally removed them from my garden beds as they were just too much work for this gardener. Between the black spot disease which in my South Carolina beds is prominent to the Japanese beetle it was just too much. I see many roses around my town and the flowers are beautiful but overall the plants do not look well. It takes a special kind of gardener to grow and care for one of man's most loved plants the rose.Knock Out Roses for Your Landscape
