Learn How To Make A Resume Look Professional

by Cynthia Penfold

It is important for you to understand that you can create a resume which looks very professional right from your very own home office. Anyone with basic word processing software and a printer should not have to pay for someone else to create a resume for them.

Even if this is the first resume you have ever made, there are some simple things you can do to ensure it looks and reads in a manner that marks you as a professional.

This article will focus on explaining how to make a resume look professional. Start out with some formatting research. While it is true there is no right way to format a resume, there are certainly wrong ways. The most important thing to keep in mind is your resume should be visually appealing and easy to read. If your resume does not meet these simple criteria it is likely to be discarded quickly.

Next you need to know how to make a resume lead to a job interview. It is extremely rare that you will be offered a job based on your resume alone. The much more common scenario is your resume gets you invited to an interview and then the job is yours to win or lose. In order to get invited for an interview your resume has to do a few things. Next, your resume has to really sell your most marketable skills.

Finally, your resume has to be functional so the employer knows how to reach you to request an interview. In addition to all of this you should also know how to make a resume that avoids common mistakes. This means your resume should be free of any spelling, grammar or typographical mistakes. Your resume should also be targeted for the job for which you are applying. Far too many job seekers make the mistake of sending out a generic resume which does not make them appear to be an ideal candidate for a particular job.
