It is always a nervy time for the companies in an industry, when a large company with huge financial resources suddenly decides to join the competition in that industry or when an already large competitor improves on its services. Google caused such a furor with
?the release of its Chrome internet browser. Recently, Microsoft has done same with its Bing search engine. It is even worse when that competitor decides to offer for free what other competitors sell. Microsoft plans to do just that with its new, free antivirus software code-named Morro.Microsoft (Nasdaq: "MSFT") which makes the widely used Windows operating system plans to offer Morro as a downloadable product for Windows users in the second half of 2009. It will be more than an antivirus product as Microsoft plans to include real-time malware protection where the URLs a user wants to visit are first routed through Morro's malware protection service for a check against known malware sites. In essence, Microsoft will offer consumers antivirus and real-time malware protection software for their PCs at no cost. So what will this mean for security software vendors such as Symantec and McAfee who offer paid antivirus protection for PCs which use Windows?Microsoft's Free Antivirus
