unemployed.Though our economic situation is enough to keep a good person down, we are at the mercy of these circumstances at the moment, and we have little to no control over what happens. So, while I am forced to linger in the land of unemployment for a while, I've chosen to focus on the one thing that is under my control: me.It is easy to get depressed and to want to throw in the towel, content with sitting on the sofa with a bowl of ice cream watching court shows all day, but that made me feel worse, and I knew I had to make some changes, get my energy level climbing again. If you are like me, traditional exercise classes, and going to the gym, genuinely bore me, and I lose interest before I really ever get started. To get back in shape I had to try something new, something I had never done before, and I did: running. This may not sound so awe-inspiring at first, but I just turned forty this year, and I never ran a day in my life (other than as a child when chased by my brother), so this was a true challenge.I am fortunate to live near a small lake with a running/biking trail along the perimeter, and I started by making myself walk around the lake at least 2 to 3 times each week, when one day, the walking was no longer enough. I wanted to go faster, get my blood pumping. I picked up the pace a little, more like a light jog. Several times I had to slow it back down to a brisk walk to catch my breath, but then I was able to try the jogging again, and I repeated this pattern several times each week for nearly a month. After that first month, I was able to do a light jog around the entire lake without having to bring my pace back down to a walk!Unemployed? Take Charge of Your Health
