?to discover, wonderful foods to taste, and much to learn about history and culture. Travel allows us to accomplish all these things and more, but we must be open and willing to explore all that travel has to offer. We immediately become aware, through taking the time to travel, that the world around us is much bigger than we may have previously believed or ever imagined. This awareness allows us to grow to higher levels as individuals. We gain a deeper understanding of other cultures, and thereby build a bridge of acceptance, tolerance, and consideration. The willingness to try the food of another culture, for example, permits us to connect with the people of that particular origin. Also, attempting to speak the native language of a country shows that we are respectful and polite. This alone often causes the residents to want to strike up a conversation or make our acquaintance. We are thereby able to make connections through traveling that might otherwise not be possible. Also, traveling expands our knowledge in innumerable ways. We learn about the traditions and cultural heritage of other places in a manner which is far more personal and beneficial than when we attempt to learn solely through books, classes, or television programs. Nothing can compare to the act of learning about a country's history while being present in that location. We may also learn about the history of our own areas simply by traveling to local historical sites that we have never visited before. Our level of appreciation is raised when we seek to do this, and we are better able to retain the knowledge we acquire. Why Traveling is ImportantOriginally from: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1960944/why_traveling_is_important_.html
