Advancement And Rise Of Printing Services

by Gary Smith

The popularity of print medium as a potent means of spreading information to people of all types is immense even these days. The printing services sector has witnessed massive growth over the decades and continues to grow at a steady pace even in the present. Today it can fulfil almost any need of the clients related to printing and its supplementary requirements.

With the invention of the world's first printing press by Gutenberg in the 1400's, mass printing services in the form of relief printing evolved into a standard industrial service. A slight projection of the printed matter from the background, like in a rubber stamp, is a key characteristic of relief printing. Relief printing is rarely in use nowadays, though there are still some instances where it is used.

Printing techniques have changed radically down the years, and these changes have been brought about by introduction of latest technologies. Modern printing techniques are quite varied and have a range of uses. The astounding diversity of available choices in printing methods in fact greatly confuses the clients.

Of all printing methods in the market today, offset printing tops the list in popularity. This method uses a restricted amount of ink to print the matter on metal plates first and then it transfers it onto paper. This method is best for bulk printing, as it is both quicker and cheaper than other methods in the market.

Other popular forms of printing that have evolved over time are electrostatic printing, which can be compared to photocopying, and thermal printing, which creates the print impression by heating coated thermal paper in select areas.

However, the latest revolution in printing technology is digital printing. As the name indicates, in this technique, images are digitally created on a computer, which are then examined for correctness and are then printed. This method is faultless and quick, but it is best suited only for a limited number of prints. As the printer can modify each print in this technique, it can be employed for computer form printing, where items such as receipts or invoices can be printed for different customers, with each having an identical format but different contents.

Printing services took another leap when the world wide web started gaining popularity. Most printing companies have their own websites that allow customers to easily place orders and study designs and specimens, without them having to go all the way to the firm's premises for this purpose.

Printing has always taken quantum evolutionary leaps with the advancement in technology. The best part about this trend is that it will continue well into the future and keep improving the performance and cost effectiveness of printing services.
