An Introduction to Yoga

Yoga has been around for thousands of years. And yet, there are still many people who do not really know what yoga is. Here is an introduction to yoga to help people understand this ancient form of exercise.Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that was designed to strengthen and align the human body. Along with this, it was also designed to help the mind become focused for meditation. The form that is known today, especially in the US, has been adapted to the needs and lifestyles of
Westerners. Yoga is originally from India. It is an ancient art and science. Most of the yoga that is practiced in the West is the style know as Hatha Yoga. This type works with postures, breathing techniques, conscious relaxation and meditation to connect the body, mind, and spirit. The word yoga literally means "to yoke or join." If you work with your body through yoga, you will connect with your spirit. Yoga also help the practitioner to untangle emotional, physical, and mental knots that will bind you and keep you from your true nature. As one of the oldest forms of holistic health-care systems, yoga focuses on both the mind and body. Most westerners tend to live in their minds more than their bodies. From the time we start to communicate with other humans, westerners are focused on learning from books. There are rarely employment opportunities that use both the mind and body. And, unfortunately, Western medical practitioners focus on physical health. The aspects of emotional and spiritual health are neglected by the medical establishment. One way to correct this oversight is to practice yoga.It is possible to reconnect your body, mind and spirit if you practice yoga postures and breath work. Yoga can help you become whole and regain knowledge of your Self. Practitioners of yoga learn to listen to all parts of the Self.An Introduction to Yoga
