Is there any particular reason why my dog's antibiotic tablets are more expensive than street ecstasy?

I don't begrudge it at all, he's my mate, but why are they so expensive? (Can I make it perfectly clear that I don't use ecstasy, and neither does the dog. It's just a comparison.)
