Looking for a Healthy Meal? Try Fresh Lobster!

by Shannon Linnen

If like many of us, you're on what can seem like a perpetual diet, it can be difficult to stay healthy. One of the hardest things is finding a protein that you like that isn't bad for you. No one wants to eat tofu every day, and red meat has been out for years. You can only eat so much chicken, and now even fish is becoming unsafe, with high levels of mercury. Where is a dieter to turn when all they really want is to spice things up? Surprisingly, and deliciously, you can turn to fresh lobster.

Many of us have long believed that lobster is bad for you. It tastes so great, and feels so deliciously indulgent, that eating it must be cheating. In fact, this just isn't true. Lobster, at 90 calories per three and a half ounces, is actually better for you than other protein rich meats, like steak and even chicken. This means that including lobster in your diet is, unbelievably I know, a great way to get trim and stay healthy while doing it. Fresh lobster is a must add protein to your meals.

It may be hard to swallow that lobster is good for you, when all of the information you've seen in the past is that it's unhealthy. But the fresh lobster meat itself has always been healthy, it's simply the way that it's been prepared that hasn't fit a dieters lifestyle. By dipping fresh lobster in butter, the calorie and fat count of course goes up. And there is a lot of fat in a creamy soup like a lobster bisque. But when prepared, a lobster is steamed, meaning the meat itself is free from oils and fats.

Lobster is also a great source of omega three fatty acids, which you've probably been seeing on the news lately. Found naturally in many types of fish and shellfish, omega three fatty acids are seen as essential for heart health. They are such a hit that they're being added to many other foods. Fresh lobster is a great way to get these great heart benefits because it can be prepared in such a low calorie way. It's also a great way to get the protein that you need to have energy throughout your day.

How can you enjoy fresh lobster in a healthy way? Lobster makes a great addition to a salad, in chunks, it's rich taste is a wonderful way to use less dressing and add a kick to what you're eating. You can also try a few pieces on a slice of quality bread, like rye or pumpernickel, to mix the strong flavors. For dinner, try some whole wheat pasta dressed with a little oil and some lobster meat. It's sure to be an instant family favorite.

Want to spice up dinner tonight? Try some healthy fresh lobster? It's a great way to eat something that's good for you, and tastes delicious. So go enjoy!
