How to Do the Pilaties Exercises

by Samantha Guier

As enthusiasts are aware, pilaties work on seven key principles such as breathing, centering, concentration, control, precision, efficiency of movement, and flexibility. These principles are vital to the facilitation of the pilaties exercise systems. Different instructors have done several improvisations to make sure that these exercises are well understood by the participants.

This mode of exercise has surely made its name across different countries. Pilaties has been further popularized by local gyms and workshops as they continue to develop and offer local courses that attract the general public and enable regular Joes to get to know the repertoires better. The Contrology principle developed by its founder, Joseph Pilates, has affected and touched a lot of peoples' lives already. Most, if not all, would agree that all the principles of pilaties that leads to the Contrology Principle would demand discipline in all its sense.

It may sound simple but it is not an easy feat. This exercise system demands discipline and a great deal of commitment. You would have to go through a challenging repertoire of 32 exercises. These pilaties repertoire can be done on a set of materials like the springs, the Reformer, Cadillac, Ladder Barrel, and the Wunda Chair. All of these materials had been developed by the same founder.

The 32-set repertoire is indeed a challenge as you move from one yoga position to another through well-choreographed transitions. For example, the spring will encourage "positive resistant" and would entice you to channel more strength as you stretch it farther from its ends. This set of exercises will surely develop and encourage proper spine alignment, posture, and flexibility.

Some doctors prefer their patients to undergo pilaties while pregnant. Even if most articles would suggest that pregnant women would benefit more from this type of exercise, it would still be better not to rely on self-help tapes and books while child-bearing. The guidance of a Pilates expert is still suggested and should be physically present while the class is being held.

The degree of stress is not equal among all pregnant women. The exercise is recommended since it promotes the development of abdominal muscles, pelvic and back, it is still not recommendable for all pregnancies. The doctor's advice and a careful eye of a pilaties expert are sure ingredients to keep an expecting mom from being hurt by the exercise. A qualified instructor can guide the mom to the right positions by applying only ample stress. Of course, they can assist in times of emergencies as well. Whatever your health condition maybe, it is always helpful to seek learning from a qualified instructor to give you the entire benefit of the class and program - and a sure value for your money, too.
