How You Can Stop Smoking Without Using Nicotine Replacement

by Chris James

With everyone becoming extremely aware of their health, it is a wonder that many people are quitting smoking. While there are tons of different ways to stop smoking, do you think that you can stop smoking without using nicotine replacement? Well, you can! While there are some good things about opting for nicotine replacement therapy, also referred to as NRT, there are quite a few benefits to giving some other methods a try.

It is hard to quit smoking. It ranks right up there with losing weight, in terms of the patience, struggle, and will power it may take to stop. Nicotine is a very addictive drug. It holds on very tight, so to speak.

Firstly, we are going to touch base on NRT, nicotine replacement therapy and how the entire process works. In short, it is basically going to make your mind and body quit the craving that they might have for cigarettes. First realize though, the cigarettes are not what is addictive; it is the nicotine that is hidden inside of them. This NRT actually lets very small amounts of nicotine to get into your bloodstream and body. There are tons of ways that you can do this, either the gum, inhaler or more commonly, the patch.

One thing that you will notice about using NRT to stop smoking is that your body will still be getting nicotine. This is where a lot of people begin to think that they can control their smoking and that they might even be able to sneak in a few cigarettes socially again. This is not the case, for as soon as you start smoking again, even just small amounts, you will end up back to the smoking habit that you worked so hard to quit.

So, it may be necessary to take a more proactive approach when you are trying to quit. Fortunately, there are a lot of tips that are helpful in this endeavor. The first thing you need is not just your willpower. You also need to think long and hard about why you are quitting, what you are going to do to prepare for it, and when you intend to quit.

What are reasons for quitting? They are different for everyone, but they can mean all the difference. You may want to be healthier. You may want to stop wasting money on cigarettes, especially since the cost per pack and per carton is rising exponentially. Either way, your reasons for stopping will help with your success.

After you have decided why you want to quit smoking you need to know that deciding to quit is a big deal. While you may think that you will finish off the last pack that you have in your purse or the carton in the fridge, it will ultimately lead to another pack, so make sure that you set a date on when you want to quit by. That way, you have a goal that you are trying to reach.

As stated above, quitting smoking is very, very hard and if you are serious about it, the time should be now. You need to start making plans to quit smoking and start making changes in your own life. For example, if you take smoke breaks at a certain time, you will need to find something to do in that time frame now.
