Nippert had far improved finesse than in his most recent appearance last week in Newborn York. In the Bronx, he surrendered 11 base runners (4 hits, 7 walks) and was only responsible for 11 outs. On Tuesday afternoon, he got out of trouble to secure his fifth victory of the year and third as a starter. Nippert gave up 5 hits, walked merely one. He lessened his earned run average as a starting pitcher to 4.43 and overall to 3.91. It was Nippert's third fruitful outing in his previous 5 appearances.
Nippert insisted there honestly was not a lot variation between how he pitched last week and on Tuesday: "Truly able to pitch good pitches. In NY, I believe I threw one curveball for a strike. The larger mess I found myself in, I tried more to get beyond it. I was clearly going the wrong way. I kept walking men, trying to create that flawless pitch.
"Yesterday, I was able to pitch it ahead in the count, late in the count. Keep all of them off my fastball."
Said boss Ron Washington: "I do not think he was throwing too hard. He was spreading things around with his change-up and his moving stuff. Increased the speed of his fastball."
Washington and Nippert together revealed Nippert wasn't playing to protect his place in the pitching rotation. And Nippert insisted he'll gladly start or come out of the bullpen. Seeing that the Rangers are in post-season contention, each teammate's role increases in significance.
"I truly wish to assist this team," he claimed. "It's pleasant for us that we maintain more arms now. Whomever's effective you could go with.
