midfoot as opposed to heel striking. According to Newton Running, this mimics barefoot running and will put less pressure on your body, helping to prevent injuries. It also serves as a way to help increase your natural momentum. As an added bonus, since most of the pounding from running is placed on the actuator lugs, the shoes are said to be more durable and allow for more mileage than an average running shoe. With 9 US patents and several independent laboratory tests concluding their superiority over competitors, it is apparent that Newtons are not your average running shoe. After hearing about these shoes I was very interested and decided to give them a try. I must say that after a month of running in them I am extremely impressed. I have run in Nikes, Adidas, Brooks, New Balance, and my personal favorites Asics. The experience I got from the Newtons was immensely different from all of these. The actuator lugs on the bottom of the shoes are very noticeable and serve as a nice cushion for absorbing impacts. Being a midfoot runner already, my running form worked well with the shoes, but I could tell how they would encourage a person not to land on their heels. Besides my calves feeling worked a little more, I felt much more refreshed on days following runs. One of the things that I especially liked about these shoes is that when I wanted to push the pace the shoes responded extremely well. The actuator lugs really do help to increase your momentum and it almost seems as though they entice you to run faster. There are not many problems with the shoes either. One thing I did notice however, it is slightly difficult to turn in these shoes as you stand on the lugs instead of the entire forefoot. The small reduction in stability is to be expected as they are made to mimic barefoot running.A Review of Newton Running Shoes
