There are countless reasons why your children dislike school. Before take any actions, you should figure out the underlying causes and deal with them. As parents, you can perform some " magic" to help your children love school when they are still young. The following are some causes that you children might dislike school.
Firstly, children get bored easily if they find their class work is not challenging enough. Children also need full attention from their teachers, or else they will loose their attention readily.
They may also get bored if their learning styles are not in line with the teacher's teaching style. You should find out where the problem is. Is it the teacher, the curriculum or your child's learning style? Then fulfill your child's needs by making changes. Changes can be asking your child's classmates to take care of your child, finding a brand-new learning style for your child, etc.
Other than problems with the learning process, peers could also be a reason for why your child dislikes school. If you notice that your child is having problems fitting in at school, you have to take a very careful balance on how much you want to step in. Sometimes, it is good to let your child try to sort it out on his/her own first. But make sure you are aware of the problems and should always keep track of whether the problem is escalating.
Seeking help for a counselor, doing self-esteem building exercises, encouraging extra-curricular activities that could help develop friendships are also helpful in solving this problem.
Lastly, pressure might also be a reason your child avoids school. When exam scores are getting more and more important nowadays, pressure exists even for children that are at a very young age. To help alleviate this problem, try to identify the origin from which the pressure is coming from. Possible origins might include the school, the teacher, you or even your child's own desire to outperform.
Help your children build self-esteem and make them like to learn. You have to let them know that test scores are not everything at school which is a place for learning, but not for showing off.
