You Have Options When Shopping for a Gun Safe

by Bob McKenzie

Don't let the taglines fool you. Even though some states requires you to own a gun safe they never specify exactly what type of gun safe you need to own. There are countless variations on the gun safe out there to choose from and each of them will provide a different price range as well as a few different features that make them special. If you need a place to safely store your weapon collection look no further than the gun safe, but make sure you buy the right type for your needs.

Gun safes are usually big and hulking monsters that sit in the corners of basements or in the dark recesses of a home but they don't have to be. In fact, there are gun safes that can be installed and mounted right into the walls of your house and you can easily hide them from view. The wall gun safe is a great safe if you're into camouflaging your weapons collection, plus you will feel like a spy with a secret vault if you own one of these.

Biometric gun safes are some pretty sophisticated gun safes. They do away with the old idea that a lock needs push buttons and dials to be opened and they introduce the idea of fingerprint identification. Biometric gun safes provide you with a digital computer that can read your fingerprints when you push them against the front of the safe. The fingerprints are store in the system and if your's doesn't match, well, then you're out of luck. Most safes allow you to store up to 15 fingerprints at a time so you can grant access to anyone you trust.

If you live in a flood zone or an area with lots of wild fires you might want to think about installing a floor gun safe in your home. Floor gun safes are buried in the concrete of your basement and are extremely durable against natural disasters. Thieves won't be able to find them either because you can put them under a rug or under some furniture. There really is no safer option than the floor gun safe for maximum security.

Maybe you don't have a massive gun collection or maybe you just like to have a single gun safe under your bed to store your hand gun for easy access. Either way, a handgun safe is probably the right kind of safe for you. These safes are just large enough to fit one handgun or pistol and an ammunitions clip. They are generally locked with a key so you can easily open them up but they will keep away small children and prying eyes.

When you're out shopping for a gun safe make sure to familiarize yourself with all of the different kinds of gun safes the stores have to offer. Some gun safes are better than others for particular gun collections and some will offer much more functionality than others. You have to make the decision for yourself on which gun safe is right for you and your guns but just know that there are a lot of options for you to choose from.
