After his beatdown, a medic gave him some basic medical care, and then they threw him into a cell with a bit of food and water to detox. And after that, they released the guy to his family without charge.
Even though the beating was extremely brutal, it helped the guy put his life back on track. He realized that his life had gone haywire, and that the next time he was arrested, the cops would probably beat him until he died.
