SAMHSA Awards Up To $15.3 Million In Grants To Expand Substance Abuse Treatment Capacity In Targeted Areas

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) announced it is awarding up to $15.3 million over three years to 13 grantees to expand substance abuse treatment capacity systems in communities that can most benefit from these types of integrated comprehensive services.
"For many people, these grants will expand their community's ability to provide integrated and comprehensive care," said Acting Administrator Eric Broderick, D.D.S., M.P.H. "This community-based response will improve the quality and intensity of care and services."
These grants will foster the development and utilization of local recovery-oriented systems of care to address gaps in treatment capacity by supporting person-centered and self-directed approaches for substance abuse (including alcohol and drug) treatment and recovery services in communities with serious drug problems.
The annual award per grantee amount is up to $400,000 for fiscal year 2009. Continuation award amounts may vary, depending on the availability of funds and performance of the grantee. The program will be administered by SAMHSA's Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.
