Techniques for Effectively Trimming Your Beard

Using a beard trimmer successfully will come with practice. Knowing a few tips and tricks will make the process of grooming your beard second nature. The style and look of your beard is a personal decision. Before beginning knowing what you want your beard to look like is critical. You will need a few simple items before you start. Make sure that everything you use is cleaned and disinfected. You are now ready to trim your beard.

The items you need are: scissors, comb and shaving cream plus a new razor, newspaper and a small garbage can. The scissors and comb will be used to comb the beard hairs, and trim with the scissors as needed. You will need to shave your neck area and certain areas of your face. You will use the newspaper to collect the trimmed hairs in before throwing them in the garbage can.

The next step is perhaps the most important one, deciding how long or short you want your beard to be. Look around on the internet or go to the barber shop and browse through men's magazines for ideas. Once you know what you want your beard to look like, then you may begin with the trimming procedure. Remember when you start trimming take off a little at a time, as opposed to taking off too much. Take your time going slowly will result in a great look for your beard.

You will find several attachment tools included with your beard trimmer. You will want to place the correct tool on your trimmer before you begin. You may begin with either the right or the left sideburn. Place the trimmer at an angle against your skin, moving straight down to the end of the sideburns. Look at what you've just trimmed, then move on using the same steps for the other sideburn. Check both sideburns, making sure that they are even and as short as you want them. Now is the time to trim a little extra, only if your beard needs it.

Okay here we go, let's trim the main part of your beard. Be careful to choose the correct tool to clip on to the trimmer. Begin at either the right or left side of your beard, holding the trimmer at the bottom of the beard, go in an upward motion. Stop and look at it, then move on until you are finished trimming the beard. You may find that it is easier to comb out the beard, and holding the beard hairs while you use the trimmer. Try it, and get a feel for it. If it feels natural the continue to use the comb.

Your beard and sideburns are trimmed, shaving is the next step. Place the shaving cream or soap on your face and neck. Start at the bottom of your neck and move with an upward motion with your razor. Repeat this until the neck is shaved. Now shave your face, look for any stray hairs or stubble you missed. Rinse your face, beard and neck with water, and dry with hand towel. It is important to comb out your beard when it has had time to dry.

You are almost finished now. Check your entire face in the mirror, looking carefully at your beard. Trim the hairs that you see are uneven or too long. Is that is the look you were going for, if it's too long, then you may go shorter. Now the last thing you need to do is clean your beard trimmer. You will find instructions in the box that it came in. Make sure that you put your trimmer is wiped down and up in a safe place, and it will be ready for the next time you need it.
