Trim Your Beard The Pro Way

Trimming your beard the basics. You must make sure that the hairs of your beard are at their maximum height and facing in the same direction. Comb the hair in the direction that it grows. Decide on the final look of your beard before you start trimming.Shave as you normally do, including the exposed parts of cheeks and neck. The shaving cream must be washed out completely and your beard should be slightly wet. Adjust the hair length selector of your trimmer to the amount of hair you want to cut. Till the moment that you are used to trimming your beard with a trimmer it's better use a longer hair setting so you don't trim off too much.

Trimming the length of your beard. The trimmer must be used with the guard attachment on. Hold the trimmer in a way that the front of the cutting unit is facing away from you. Start using the beard trimmer on your chin following the line of your jawbone. Work you way up to your ear and upper beard. Using the guard attachment of the trimmer you can follow the contours of your face. You may trim either against or with the direction of beard growth, whichever you prefer.

Finding your beard line. Take off the trimmer guard attachment and hold the trimmer vertically with trimmer cutting blades facing you. Now trim the edge of your beard. The cutting blades should touch your skin lightly. Keep moving the trimmer along the edge of your beard till you reach the desired location.

The finishing touch trimming your beard. When the trimmer guard attachment is still attached to the trimmer remove this first. Use a small comb or the styling comb that came with the trimmer to hold your beard hairs in position. This gives the best control when using the trimmer. Holding the trimmer horizontally with the cutting unit looking away from you, run the trimmer along the length of the comb.

Be trendy with the 'Stubble Look'. Make sure that the trimmer guard attachment is on and set it to position 1(1.5 mm) or 2 (2.5 mm). Hold the trimmer in a horizontal position with the cutting unit facing either down or up. Trim hairs using an upward or downward motion, against or with the direction of hair growth, whichever you prefer. If you want a better looking "stubble look", separate the the trimmer guard attachment from the trimmer and repeat the previous steps. Unless you want a blotchy look you should avoid removing too much hair.

Beard trimming final tips. A beard trimmer is more practical for trimming than scissors. You can cut hair at different lengths thanks to the adjustable trimmer settings. Adjust your beard trimmer to a longer hair length if you are new to using one - you don't want to cut too much at first. Wet hair is longer than dry hair, so trim a little at a time.
