How to make style effortless! Most busy moms are convinced that they don't have time to be stylish. Boost confidence- get out of those sweats and into something chic!

It happens all too often. When a woman becomes better known as 'Mom', her daily uniform will sometimes become her husband's ratty old sweatshirt and ill-fitting 'mom jeans'. Somewhere between hitting the snooze button and the kids jumping on the bed, there are about five seconds available to go from asleep to ready to run. Rest assured, there are a few simple pointers that can transform a tired and drab Mom into one vivacious Hot Mama!
Comfort and Style
First things first, say goodbye to that raggedy old college sweatshirt that serves as a reminder of days gone by. It wasn't flattering back when it was worn to English Lit. class with stirrup pants and leg warmers, and it certainly isn't going to do any favors now. Instead, try layering fitted pieces under a tailored jacket or cardigan for a comfy, yet effortlessly pulled together look.
While a pair of pants shouldn't be constricting or uncomfortable, they should not come with an elastic waistband, either. When shopping for jeans, look for a pair constructed of a cotton/elastane blend which will move with curves, so they stretch with the body's contours for ultimate comfort. Been living in sweatpants for years and can't stand the thought of wearing denim? Try a pair of trousers, as they come in an assortment of colors and fabrics, with textures ranging from airy linen, smooth silk, to a thick cotton blend.
Say Goodbye To 'Mom Jeans'
If a pair of jeans has been in the closet for five or more years, it is fair to assume that they either no longer fit, or they have become outdated. Any pair of jeans with a waistband that comes up above the navel and a tapered leg that is almost fitted at the ankle need to go in the donation pile. This applies to any pairs of jeans with pleats on the front panel, as well as that favorite old pair of tattered jeans that are so worn out that they have become inappropriate for any situation shy of a Guns N' Roses concert.
A pair of jeans with a slightly flared leg are universally flattering, and a structured cut and darker wash make this style universally compatible as well. Dress them up with a slinky top and sexy heels, or dress them down with a plain white t-shirt, a fitted jacket and flats. Low rise jeans are flattering on most women, with the waistband hitting just below the belly button. A dark wash free from any fading or whiskering in the seat and thigh area provides a maximum slimming effect. A trouser or wide leg cut also creates a slender silhouette by skimming over any problem areas and balancing out curves.
Extremely low rise jeans are risky for any woman to wear, especially a woman grappling with small children. To ensure a proper fit, try on several sizes in an assortment of brands, making sure the waist does not gap, and that the seat does not bring the term 'stuffed sausage' to mind. Keep in mind that every brand is cut a bit differently, therefore while a certain size in one brand may fit like a glove, it may be too large or too small in another brand.
Wearable Trends That Flatter
Sometimes the hottest trends look fantastic on the runway, but don't relate to regular day to day life. While a pair of sky high, over the knee platform boots may look phenomenal, they probably won't last very long at the grocery store. On the other hand, a very comfortable, easy to wear style of the moment is a belted tunic over leggings, with ballet flats. Creating this style is so easy, and it takes the same amount of time to slip on as those old sweats, resulting in a look that is very pulled together and sophisticated.
Another current style is the monochromatic look, which is a great way to create a long, lean illusion. Combine articles of clothing that are in the same color family, varying only a couple of shades from piece to piece. Keep the color palette as close to the same hue as possible, and add fun accessories for an unexpected flair.
Pairing a simple sheath dress with opaque tights and boots is becoming a hot trend for fall. This is a great way to get extra use out of those flirty summer dresses. A cheerful dress pops against dark tights and boots, creating a playful vibe, with little effort.
Stylish Accessories
To finish off any ensemble, use simple accessories to make a bold statement. Small silver or gold hoop earrings are an elegant touch to just about every collection. Layer necklaces of assorted metals and textures to create a more substantial piece of jewelry. Bangle bracelets and hair clips are great ways to add personal panache to an outfit. A quick fashion tip: when wearing hair pulled back, a pair of dangling earrings can help draw attention away from a tired face, which is what most moms see in the mirror each morning.
Being a mother has its challenges. Sacrifices are made on a daily basis. One thing that a mom never sacrifice is her personal style. Style is not merely the physical feature of wearing clothes a certain way. Style has a psychological aspect as well, boosting a woman's confidence and self worth. TV show hires ex-president Bush's daughter

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Former President George W. Bush's daughter, Jenna Bush Hager, is set to become a correspondent for the U.S. television news and talk show "Today."

NBC, which airs "Today" weekday mornings, said on Monday it had hired Hager, 27, to be a contributing correspondent starting September 14.

"In previous appearances, she displayed a natural ability to communicate and connect," Jim Bell, the show's executive producer, said in a statement. "She has great passion about important subjects, especially education and literacy."

Hager started teaching schoolchildren in Washington in 2005 and has served as an intern for UNICEF, touring Latin America and the Caribbean to document the plight of impoverished children.

She currently is the Young Leadership Ambassador & Chair for UNICEF's Next Generation committee.

Hager has written two books that made The New York Times bestsellers list, "Ana's Story: A Journey of Hope," the true story of a 17-year-old mother in Latin America who has HIV, and "Read All About It!," a picture book co-written with her mother, former first lady Laura Bush.

Hager also has written stories for The New York Times and CosmoGIRL! magazine. She graduated from the University of Texas in 2004.

Build a Garden Bench to Last a Lifetime

Since they spend virtually all of their life exposed to the elements, wooden garden benches only last a few years. However, this is an idea for a garden bench that's virtually impervious to weather and will last for years. It's solid, easy to build and makes an attractive addition to any garden. Here's how you can build your own garden bench to last a lifetime.
Things you need
50 pound bag of cement8' long 4" X 4" cedar post4' X 2' sheet 5/8" plywoodlevelshimspower sawdrywall screws2 - 10" carriage boltspower drill1/2" drill bit and counter sink drill bit.
Building your lifetime bench

Start by building a cement form using the sheet of plywood. Cut two 3" pieces from the long side of the plywood then cut two 3" pieces from the short side as well. These pieces will make up the� sides of your concrete form. Finally cut the remaining plywood to the size you want for the seating area of your bench. (36" X 16"?).
Build the concrete form by screwing the 3" pieces to the edge of the plywood sheet using drywall screws spaced about every 5 or 6 inches.� Install screws where the corners come together to firm them up and ensure the form is strong enough to hold the weight of the concrete.
Place the form on a relatively level piece of ground. Use your level to make sure it really is level and if� not, use shims to level it.� This step is important because the concrete in the form needs to be level to ensure your entire bench seat will� be the same thickness.
Next, spray the inside of the form with cooking oil (to ensure the concrete won't stick to the form), then mix your concrete following the instructions on the bag, and carefully pour it into the form.� You want to fill the form to about 1/2" from the top.
Gently tap the sides of the form to settle the concrete, then leave it to set up for a couple of days.
After the concrete has dried, release it from the form by backing out the drywall screws and removing the sides.Building the legs
Cut the cedar post into five pieces. One piece 35" long to form the crosspiece that runs under the seat and four pieces each 15" long to form the legs.
Assemble the base by measuring and marking the location of the carriage bolts near the top of the legs and in the end of the crosspiece. At each end, drill a 1/2" hole through the legs and crosspiece and counter sink for the carriage bolt heads and nuts.�
Finish the leg assembly by applying wood glue to the meeting edges, then attach the legs to the cross piece using a 10" carriage bolt at each end.
Finally, place your leg assembly where you can enjoy your garden and position the concrete/seat on top. That's it, a garden bench built to last a lifetime.

Maintaining your bench

You could apply� a few coats of concrete sealer to help protect the concrete from chipping over the years.
If you leave the cedar unfinished� it will weather to a light gray or silver color over time, or you can apply a clear cedar stain to keep it looking fresh.

Government Of Canada Helps Keep Youth In School Through Illicit Drug Use Education

Dr. Colin Carrie, Member of Parliament for Oshawa and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health, announced today the Government of Canada's support for a project that will help discourage young people from taking illicit drugs. Dr. Carrie made this announcement on behalf of the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health.

"The Government of Canada has introduced many measures to prevent the use of illicit drugs in our schools," said Minister Aglukkaq. "This project will help educate youth about the negative consequences of taking drugs."
This project aims to improve the decision-making skills of suspended and expelled students in dealing with drug-related issues, which in turn, will assist them in re-entering the mainstream educational system. The project will be managed by the Trinity Theatre Toronto and its partners: the Safe School Office of the Toronto District School Board and Parent Actions on Drugs.

Americans more confident on healthcare costs: poll

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Fewer Americans are afraid that they will be unable to pay for healthcare services and fewer expect to postpone medical treatments due to costs, according to a Thomson Reuters survey published on Monday.

Researchers found a steady increase in people's confidence about their ability to pay for healthcare services -- it rose 12 percent between March and July this year.

The survey of 3,000 households showed, unsurprisingly, that people who made more money were more confident they could pay for medical care, and people who had insurance were far more confident about paying than those who lacked insurance.

"These findings are consistent with data we've been seeing for everything from hospital discharge trends to opinions about healthcare reform," said Gary Pickens, chief research officer for the Healthcare & Science business of Thomson Reuters.

"There is growing optimism among many healthcare consumers, but (there) also is a clear disparity in outlook between those with higher income levels who have insurance coverage and those who are uninsured. This gap needs to be an area of focus for healthcare professionals and policymakers," Pickens added in a statement.

Healthcare reform is the signature policy goal of President Barack Obama, and Congress is working on several bills, most concentrating on changes in the health insurance industry.

Thomson Reuters, the parent company of Reuters News, telephoned 3,000 people to ask whether they expected to have difficulty paying for healthcare services, delay or cancel a routine doctor's visit, diagnostic test, elective surgery, a visit for a minor illness or injury or therapy over the next three months.

"Consumers in the lowest income groups are approximately 20 percent less confident than average, while those in the highest income group are approximately 40 percent more confident than average," according to the report, published online here

"In July 2009 those consumers with college degrees or more education had confidence levels 25 percent greater than average, while those with high school education or less were approximately 10 percent less confident than average at the same point in time," it adds.

"Those with insurance have overall confidence levels approximately 10 percent higher than average, while those with no insurance have overall confidence levels more than 80 percent lower than average. Improvements in confidence occurred in both groups."

A hand is the unit of measure for telling how tall a horse is. A hand is four inches, and horses are measured from the ground to the withers, which is the point where their neck joins their shoulder. Most riding horses are between 15 and 16 hands tall. Drafters can be 18 hands tall. Ponies can be 13-14 hands or shorter.

A Pony is not a small horse, it's a separate breed. Baby horses are called foals when they are born. If the foal is a boy, it's a colt. If it's a girl, it's a filly. Once a male is castrated, he is called a gelding. When foals are three years old, the female will be called a mare and the male will be called either a stallion (uncastrated) or a gelding.

Ponies generally only grow to about 13-14 hands, although they can be as tall as 14.3 hands, measured at the withers. Ponies tend to be hardier than their larger counterparts, with more solid hooves. There are different breeds of ponies, just as there are in horses. Some are larger and more sturdy, while others are dainty, and may be more fragile of limb.

Before a horse or pony can be ridden he must be "started", a process that used to be called "breaking". You don't often see cowboys breaking bucking broncos anymore. Nowadays, most horses are started by lungeing around their handler in a circle, on a line called a lunge line or longe line. Gradually, tack or weight is added to his back, and he gets used to the feel of weight on his back. After a good deal of ground work, the first rider of the horse will mount up and let the horse walk around while he becomes accustomed to having someone atop him. Some horses never do get used to this, however - then you might see the cowboy/bronco riding show after all.

After the horse is "broken", he learns the different cues and/or verbal commands that will be used when he is under saddle. Walk, trot, canter and whoa are the most important verbal cues. These are reinforced by the rider's legs on the horse's sides, and his hands connected to the horse's mouth by means of a bit and reins.

Horses spend a good deal of time under saddle before they are taught more advanced maneuvers like dressage moves or jumping. In dressage, the horse is trained to become supple, and very attentive to his rider's cues. In jumping, the trainer will start the horse out with ground poles to develop rhythm, and gradually move the horse along until he can jump small fences. It's wise not to over-fence a young or "green" horse, as it may make them nervous and cause them to stop at the fence, or try to run around it. Neither one of these puts the rider anywhere he wants to be.
