Tenants: Do You Have the Right to Request a Dehumidifier

The housing market is all over the place at the moment. With house prices being so high before the recession hit, many people struggled to find a home their could afford. Now that we are in the recession, house prices have been falling, however, it's now harder than ever to get a mortgage for the property you could now afford. This combination has led many people to rent property rather than buying their own. It's not just home owners looking to rent property. Many property investors are buying property and seeking a buy to let mortgage which are easier to get than a basic mortgage. There are actually a number of advantages of renting property over buying. The main one would be that finding a property to rent is easier because there is a wider range compared to houses to buy. The monthly payments for rental property are normally less than that of a mortgage. Tenants also have the advantage of not having to pay for any property maintenance that may be required. This responsibili
ty normally falls on the landlord of the property. One problem that is often found in many older property is mold. Even if you don't have a mold problem in your home, if you are part of a block, it could be a neighbours that's causing problems. Because mold can cause such problems, you are allowed to request a mold inspection, even if there are no visible signs of mold in your property. If changes to reduce the mold are not made, you are entitled to withhold your rent payments and pay for the work yourself.Of course there are items such as dehumidifiers that would solve the problem of ever getting mold in your home. A dehumidifier is used to lower levels of humidity in your home back down to the recommend level of between 40 and 60%. Purchasing a simple appliance like this will help to reduce humidity and therefore the chance of getting mold in your home.A simple weather station won't be able to tell you how much humidity there is in your home, you'll have to get a thermohygr
ometer to get an accurate reading of humidity levels.
