Does anyone have experience with a newborn addicted to heroine and on methadone?

A friend of mine is contemplating taking custody of her newborn grandson who was born to a heroine addicted mother. I have extensive experience with heroine addicted adults and few if any, ever get off methadone. What are the short term and long term implications of caring for a methadone baby? Should the grandmother have access to Narcan?

  1. Narcan?? Have you lost your mind?? Why don't you let the DOCTORS advise your friend instead of you gathering 1/2 truths and stigma and making this situation much worse than it needs to be. When the baby comes home from the hospital there will be no need for ANYTHING other than LOVE. IF the baby was born dependent they will have weaned it at the hospital and it will be fine when it gets home.
