How Its Predicted That The Future Heating Oil For The Home Will Be Cooking Oil

Research is being carried out at the moment as to whether we could heat our homes in the future using recycled cooking oil instead of regular heating oil. Boston University in the US is currently turning cooking oil into biofuel and plans to use this to cover their heating needs in the university. Because the current consumption of oil in the university is 5000 gallons of oil per year they are trying to find a substitute source of fuel. Everyone would love to have a cheaper source of fuel so this project is creating a lot of excitement and many people are buzzing about it.But do not make the mistake of just getting a bottle of vegetable oil and pouring it straight into your heating oil tank as it is not as simple as that. There is more treatment that would need to be done to cooking oil before it could be used as a source of heating fuel. The jets inside a boiler which work to turn heating oil into a mist would not be able to deal with cooking oil and would have to be altered
accordingly. Another issue would be the fact that cooking oil is currently more expensive than normal oil. It would be possible to use used cooking oil but it would need to be filtered before it would be suitable. Just putting used cooking oil into your tank would make a huge mess.The reality of using used cooking oil for home heating is probably going to be a long way off for most of us. But the fact that there is so much used cooking oil that is just wasted means that it would be a shame not to develop some way of utilising it. A restaurant would normally use enough oil to be able to use it as heating oil when they were finished with it. And a school canteen could also provide enough oil for the heating needs of more than a few classrooms. Biofuel is better for the environment as well. Many of us are eagerly anticipating the time when these biofuels are used in the UK as well.Getting the home heated up during winter can be very expensive. Gas and electricity are very expe
nsive today, with no signs of prices coming down. Clever people are switching to heating oil as a fuel though. When they do they always need their tanks filled with cheap heating oil ensuring they can always heat their home in winter.
