How To Store Your Wine Properly At Home

If we always got what we wanted we would all wish for a lovely air-conditioned and air-circulated wine cellar. This would provide the perfect environment for best aging and you'll could rest assured their conditions would be stable. Unfortanaly this is very rarely the reality and so we have to make the most of what we have to work with. Here is some top advice for storing your wine collection properly. Location. Your bottles, both white and red wine also, are best placed in a cool room, away from the light and with moderate humidity levels. The perfect temperature to maintain your wines at is 10° to 16° C (50° to 61° F). Anything above this will cause a loss of wine quality and above 25° C will have serious adverse affects on the wines characteristics. So if the room you are storing the wine in tends to get hot, you might need a wine cooler to maintain low temp. The wine can change colour if left in direct light and also increase in temperature. The bott
le's cork can expand or shrink depending on the levels of moisture in the room air. This can result in air forcing its way into the bottle and causing oxidation, a well known negative that occurs when wine has prolonged contact with oxygen. Positioning. The bottles should be laid down flat or with the neck very slightly higher when being stored. This is because if there is not liquid in contact with the cork it can dry out and shrink. This can again cause oxidation as detailed above. It can also increase the risk of corking the wine when you use a bottle opener. Display. You're not going to want you wines to stay out of site forever. Sometimes you want to bring them out for the world to see. A good choice would be a well built wine cabinetas these tend to maintain a steady temperature and always go for one that lets you store your wines on their side.Dont use one that has a glass covering as this can lead to the greenhouse effect and warm the wines up. You might also want
to consider a cabinet that allows you to display your wine accessories and dinnerware as well.
